WiFi QR Code Generator
GeneratorsCreate a Wi-Fi QR code so guests can join your network by scanning it with their phone. Supports WPA/WPA2, WPA3, WEP, and open networks with full emoji and special character support.. Free, private — all processing in your browser.
Giving guests the Wi-Fi password is a small friction that adds up. You spell it out, they mistype, you repeat, they mistype again, and eventually everyone gives up or you change to the password on a sticky note. A Wi-Fi QR code eliminates the back-and-forth: print it once, stick it on the wall, and anyone with a modern phone points their camera at it and taps Connect. No typing, no errors, no password gymnastics.
The format behind Wi-Fi QR codes is a simple string standard that every major phone OS recognizes. This generator builds the string correctly, handles escape characters for special symbols in your password, supports WPA/WPA2, WPA3, and WEP encryption types, and marks hidden networks with the right flag. Paste your SSID and password, pick your encryption, and the QR updates live in the preview.
Once you are happy, download as PNG for digital sharing or SVG for print-quality signage. Common use cases are home guest Wi-Fi stickers, cafe and restaurant table cards, hotel room hospitality, Airbnb welcome booklets, office guest networks, and conference common areas. Because the generator runs entirely in the browser, your SSID and password never leave your device — no server logs your credentials. Print it once and your network is hospitable without anyone needing to remember a 20-character password.

Technical details
Wi-Fi QR codes encode a specific string format originally defined by Wi-Fi Alliance in the Device Provisioning Protocol family. The payload looks like:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:mypassword;H:false;;
Where:
- T: encryption type (WPA for WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP for WEP, nopass for open networks)
- S: SSID (network name)
- P: password (omitted for open networks)
- H: true for hidden SSID, false or omitted otherwise
- ;;: trailing double semicolon marks the end
Special characters within the SSID or password must be escaped with a backslash: semicolons, commas, double quotes, colons, and backslashes themselves. This generator handles escaping automatically, which matters because many passwords contain special characters. Unicode and emoji in SSIDs are supported; modern phones decode them correctly.
iOS (since iOS 11) and Android (since Android 10 natively; earlier versions via apps) support Wi-Fi QR codes out of the box. You point the camera at the code, tap the notification or banner, and the phone joins the network. Older Android devices need a third-party scanner app. WPA3 is increasingly common; if your router supports it, select WPA3 in the tool. For maximum compatibility select WPA which covers WPA, WPA2, and WPA3 devices. WEP is supported for legacy networks but you should upgrade — WEP is insecure. Open networks set encryption to nopass.
Common problems and solutions
⚠Case-sensitive SSID
SSIDs are case sensitive. Typing 'mynetwork' when the real name is 'MyNetwork' fails to connect.
⚠Changing password invalidates the code
When you rotate the Wi-Fi password, old printed QR codes stop working. Reprint as part of password rotation.
⚠Older Android lacks native support
Android 9 and earlier need a third-party QR scanner. Include a backup password for these guests.
⚠Hidden networks behave oddly on iOS
Some iOS versions require users to manually enter the SSID even after scanning hidden network QR codes.
⚠WEP is insecure
If your router only offers WEP, upgrade. WEP can be cracked in minutes.
⚠Shoulder surfers
A QR code on a public surface is effectively publishing your password. Use a dedicated guest network rather than your main Wi-Fi.
WiFi QR Code Generator — comparisons and alternatives
Typing a Wi-Fi password is a friction every guest hits. Pre-configured guest portals work but require networking expertise and hardware support. Writing the password on a chalkboard is low-tech but error-prone. A Wi-Fi QR code solves both problems with no extra hardware — print once, guests scan, they are on. This generator produces standards-compliant strings, handles special characters, supports hidden and open networks, and runs entirely in your browser so your password stays private. It is the simplest hospitality upgrade you can make.
Frequently asked questions about the WiFi QR Code Generator
▶Will this work on any phone?
Modern iOS (11+) and Android (10+) support Wi-Fi QR scanning natively. Older devices need a third-party scanner app.
▶Can I use special characters in my password?
Yes. Special characters are escaped automatically. Try scanning with your phone before printing to verify.
▶Is my password sent anywhere?
No. Generation is 100% client-side. Nothing is transmitted, logged, or stored.
▶How do I support WPA3?
Select WPA in the dropdown — WPA/WPA2/WPA3 share the same encoding. Devices pick the highest version supported by both the router and client.
▶What about enterprise Wi-Fi with 802.1X?
Enterprise Wi-Fi with username-password authentication is not supported by the basic Wi-Fi QR standard. Use a mobile configuration profile or OpenRoaming instead.
▶Can I use my logo in the center?
This generator does not include logo overlay. For logo QR codes use the single QR generator and overlay manually in a design tool.
▶Does the QR code work with hidden SSIDs?
Yes, set the hidden flag. Some iOS versions still require manual SSID entry for hidden networks.
▶What size should I print?
For tabletop use, 3-5 cm square is enough. For wall signage aim for at least 10 cm to allow scanning from a few feet away.
